Twitpic + Screensaver = Twitsaver

Labels: ,

Twitsaver is the neatest if not the best Twitter related screensaver I have seen to date.

What Twitsaver does is select random Twitpic photos posted to Twitter and displays them in a nice looking screensaver.

The only downfall is it's currently only available for Windows.

My Idea Of The Ultimate Social Networking App

Labels: , ,

If you follow me on Twitter, you already know I make it no secret what I want out of a Twitter/Social networking app. I have discussed this over and over. I figured I will now go a little more mainstream with my thoughts on this and my ideas in hope some developers will listen.

My ideal for a super power Social networking app would have these features.

  • Ability to post to multiple microblogging platforms such as Twitter, Brightkite, Plurk, Friendfeed, and others. This is already done with Ping.fm and Updating.me
  • Along with the ability to post to multiple platforms I would also like to get my replies from all of these services in one place.
  • Twitpic integration.
  • 12seconds.tv integration
  • Tinyurl support is a must.
  • An audible alert option of replies.
  • Highlighting of my replies on a timeline.
  • Keep the timeline simple and not ugly
  • Search function using Twitter Search (Summize)
  • TRACK SUPPORT This is a KEY feature for me. I want to be notified when someone posts about a topic or keyword I am tracking.
  • IM support
  • Support on different levels. For example: Blackberry, Pc, Mac, Web
These features in my mind all in one app would easily become a powerhouse in the social networking community. What are your thoughts?

Tweaking Twitter With Greasemonkey

Labels: , , ,

For those of you that don't know you can add some major tweaks to Twitter using Greasemonkey scripts. I have covered a few of my favorites before but figured now would be a great time to share some newer and better ones.

First off you will need to install Greasemonkey for Firefox.

Then just click on the link I have included for each script and clink "install this script". Then enjoy!

Here are some of the scripts I recommend.

Labels: , , ,

Last night we implemented a new format. The first hour of the show was dedicated to Twitter related topics. The second half of the show opened up to the usual free for all Tweet-UP talk.
I think the format really helped the show and offered some great content for our listeners. Thanks again to all that came, and I couldn't do it without you!

Below you will find the archive of the show and a little about what we covered.

Content

In this show we talked about FaceYourManga and it's love/hate relationships with the Twitter community. Tweetbots, Newspapers on Twitter, Free custom Twitter backgrounds, Blackbird a Blackberry Twitter client, and Twitterfeed were other topics that were reviewed.

TwitKit Gets A New Look Version 1.1 Released

Labels: , ,

My favorite Twitter app TwitKit just released a new update with a good amount of changes. Here is some details straight from their blog.

This release (codenamed "Goldfinch") focuses on UI improvements and an increase in stability. All of the code has been reorganized and cleaned up, making sure that it's as fast as possible.

You'll also see quite a few new features in this release - including SSL (secure) connection support, the ability to localize TwitKit (we have 3 new languages!), and a little 'undock' button that lets you take TwitKit out of the sidebar and into a separate window.

The UI has been redone in many ways - we're now using the awesome Fugue icon set, and the tabs now have icons instead of words, which allows us to fit more features in there!

Also, due to popular request, the keyboard shortcut to open and close TwitKit has been changed - it's now Control+Alt+A (Command+Option+A for Mac users).

The download page is updated and waiting for you.. so go ahead!

Blackbird - The Newest Twitter Client For The Blackberry

Labels: , , ,

Blackbird is another Twitter client for your Blackberry. There are other clients out there and I have tried them all. I have been using TwitterBerry until I found Blackbird.

I am liking Blackbird much more than TB for a few reasons. The main reason is for some reason it just seems easier to use. It also seems faster and on top of that my favorite feature is that you can seamlessly refresh replies to you from the replies page. With TB this was a painstaking process.

Now keep in mind Blackbird has no "eye candy". This I assume is the reason behind it being faster. In the end the speed and eas of use make up for the lack of graphics for me. I am still however waiting for one of these clients to implement an audible alert when I have a reply. So if the Blackbird developer reads this, that is the only thing I could want from this app.

Twitter + Last.Fm Part 2 - A Better Solution

Labels: , , ,

Yesterday @pootytang over at Twitter let me in on his project for Twitter and Last.Fm integration. I must say I am very impressed. This sure beats the way I had hacked it together in a previous post.

Get TwitKit To Work On Firefox 3

Labels: , , ,

Like many yesterday I downloaded FF3. I however was bummed that half of my extensions are not supported. I can live without some but not TwitKit. I was on a mission, a mission to get Twitkit to work.

I stumbled here and found a fix. Just follow these steps.

  1. Open about:config in the address bar.
  2. Right click on the list and create a boolean: extensions.checkCompatibility
  3. Set its value to false.
  4. Restart browser.

Bingo! Now TwitKit and your other extension should work fine!

How do you find your Twitter buddies?

Labels: , ,

I got to wondering today, what is the way most people on Twitter find the people they follow? I am sure we all have our different ways of going about this. I just think if I got some feedback on this in the comments section it could be interesting, as well as maybe help us out there discover new peeps to follow.

As for me, which I have covered before.... I use Tweetscan to search for topics that interest me. For example I usually search "Ohio" in hopes to find people that are from my area, I also use "Beta Invite" so I can add people who seem to be the first to know about newly released Beta apps.

I think it's funny to look back when I first started "tweeting" I was ignorant to the whole thing, and had no friends that had used Twitter. I went in blind and used the "Timeline" to find interesting people. After I found a few good people I started following people they follow and the rest is history.....

So my question for you is first, how did you find your first people to follow, and how do you find them now?
