Blackbird - The Newest Twitter Client For The Blackberry

Labels: , , ,

Blackbird is another Twitter client for your Blackberry. There are other clients out there and I have tried them all. I have been using TwitterBerry until I found Blackbird.

I am liking Blackbird much more than TB for a few reasons. The main reason is for some reason it just seems easier to use. It also seems faster and on top of that my favorite feature is that you can seamlessly refresh replies to you from the replies page. With TB this was a painstaking process.

Now keep in mind Blackbird has no "eye candy". This I assume is the reason behind it being faster. In the end the speed and eas of use make up for the lack of graphics for me. I am still however waiting for one of these clients to implement an audible alert when I have a reply. So if the Blackbird developer reads this, that is the only thing I could want from this app.

Do You Still IM?

Labels: ,

Instant messengers have seen their better days. With the evolution of micro blogging platforms, lifestreams and conversation integrated email services. My question for you is do you still IM? If so what platform or platforms do you use, and how do you use them?

With many of us having multiple contacts across many platforms, programs like Trillian, Digsby, and Adium are more popular than ever.

I myself ditched IM on my laptop and desktop all together and took all of my IM clients mobile. I did this by using Jivetalk on my Blackberry. I solely send and receive all of my IM's on my Blackberry. I have been doing this for quite sometime now. It really has strong advantages. I can stay connected wherever I am as well as I don't have another application running in my computers background. I strongly recommend going mobile with your IM if you can. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Verizon BlackBerry Curve Review

Labels: ,

I was surprised when the FedEx man slid a package on my desk early Friday morning. I knew what was waiting inside, and I wanted to get my hands on it as soon as I could. It was my new Blackberry Curve, and a day earlier than I had expected!

Upon the un-boxing, my first impression was OMG it's a perfect size. The Curve seamlessly fits so snugly in your hand. Right off the bat I was excited. The size compared to the 8830 is a big difference. It's right between a Pearl and the 8830. The best thing about the size, you don't lose any screen size from the 8830.

The next thing I noticed was that the menu, and back buttons near the trackball are angled for a better feel. As for the other keys, this is my only complaint on this phone. The keys feel kinda cheap, they have a clunky plastic feel when your typing. Not a deal closer but still an annoyance for me.

The camera and video of this little guy is great, some awesome quality for sure. Another improvement I seen is it has a different browser. The Curve has a mouse pointer when using the browser, it feels so good I have stuck with the BB browser over Opera Mini. Some serious improvements in that area.

Overall the Curve is a great choice. Perfect size, a camera, and it has louder speakers than the 8830, which had some serious speaker volume issues. Looks like I have found a phone that will stick with me for at least a year!

Dear Verizon Wireless, Please Hurry Up With The Blackberry Curve

Labels:

They say the waiting is the hardest part. I will tell you one thing, I am experiencing that right now for sure. For the past few weeks I have been chomping at the bit to get my hands on a Blackberry Curve. That should be easy right? WRONG Verizon still hasn't released it's version yet. They are stringing me along like a carrot in front of a horse's face.

It is rumored to be scheduled for release sometime this May. I have called Verizon numerous times the past two weeks and can't even get the slightest little insight on a date. They keep stating that they are not allowed to release any information concerning future releases. Hopefully they will release some information soon however.

What makes me want this Blackberry over the 8800 that I have now is mainly it has a camera. Not a huge deal for a lot of people but I think a Blackberry with a camera, along with MMS features would be a complete phone for me. I will not stray from the Blackberry Kool-Aid I have been drinking. If you haven't ever tried out a Blackberry I highly recommend you do. You will be amazed.

I am a crack user... Errr Crackberry user...

Labels: ,

So I have had a whole weekend to explore and get the feel for my new 8830 WE Blackberry from Verizon. I love it! I can't see how I have lived without one. Much like switching to a Mac, the first day or so was a little aggravating but after that I fell in love. I am amazed at how connected I feel with it snugged away in it's holder on my side, or in my gentle hands. Of course just like any other gadget I have had it has Pros/Cons but I will admit the Pros are far greater than the Cons. With most of the Cons are it being a "Verizon Dumbed Down" phone.

The main things I really like about the Blackberry is the ease of messaging. Whether emailing, SMS, or alerts, they all are conveniently added to one message folder. I know alot of people out there dislike this, but I have grown to love it. And threaded SMS? OMG! I love it! Now I can stay completely on top of a SMS conversation, or a Google Talk IM session as well.

My main complaints with this phone are the low volumes of the ringers and or alerts. I have somewhat fixed this by creating ringtones and alerts through Audacity and maxing up the gain, as well as equalization. The other volume problem is it seems when using my Jawbone over Bluetooth the sounds leaves much to be desired. Something I can live with but somewhat of an inconvenience. Lastly there is no MMS on this phone... a bummer but not a necessity, as I usually just have co-workers sending me nasty pix messages anyway.

I have also found some useful programs as well listed below.....

Twitterberry

This is a MUST have for any blackberry user that uses Twitter.... The folks over at Orangatame Software have a great app going for them. The only problem with that was that I couldn't get to their site to download the app until late Sunday. It seems their site goes down alot and is only available from there. I have fixed that by adding the file to be downloaded HERE. I hope the folks at Orangatame don't mind.

Ditching The Voyager..... Getting A Blackberry

Labels: , ,

I am getting a BlackBerry, I have never had one. This should be an interesting change from the Voyager for sure. I am hoping I have more luck with the BlackBerry than I have had with Smartphones in the past. The main reason I am making the switch is I got an amazing deal on the 8830 BlackBerry World Edition with Verizon. I am going to list my Voyager on Ebay to round up some extra money.

But, I need some help. Does anyone out there know any must have apps, or any tips or tricks of the trade I should know. Any help would be greatly appreciated, so thanks in advance.
